You too?! Common Stories from an Uncommon Parent
My twelve-year-old, budding herpetologist was devastated. His prized albino leopard gecko was dead, lying in a newly cleaned aquarium on the back patio on a sunshiny day. The “best Christmas present ever” lay shriveled up on top of his water dish, his eyes blackened and his body nearly smoking. Worst of all, it was my fault!
I didn’t mean to kill the lizard. I thought it would be a good idea to clean his aquarium while it was warm enough outside to forego his heat lamp. Unfortunately, I found out that it was warm enough to “fry” a gecko through the glass walls of the aquarium. (I must have missed the science class on magnification of heat through glass!)
My son, Spencer, insisted on a burial, which I eagerly agreed to, hoping that it would assuage my guilt for basically (though inadvertently) being responsible for the poor reptile’s demise. To read this entire article Subscribe »
