Shonda Schilling

Shonda Schilling seems to live by the principle that if life hands you lemons, make lemonade! Figuratively speaking, that’s exactly what she did when she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Her response—after five surgeries—was to found the Shade Foundation of America in 2002 to promote sun safety across the USA. Prior to her work with the Shade Foundation, Shonda and her husband worked on behalf of the ALS Association, donating and raising over nine million dollars for the association. While living in Arizona, Shonda served as Chair of the “Shonda Schilling Say it with Flowers” Luncheon, raising over $250,000 over a three-year period. When the Schillings moved to Massachusetts, Shonda teamed up with Dawn Timlin, wife of Boston Red Sox pitcher Mike Timlin, to implement the “Say it with Flowers” campaign there, raising over $200,000 for the ALS Foundation on an annual basis. The mother of four children, and the wife of former Red Sox star pitcher, Curt Schilling, Shonda has received numerous awards for her charity work, among them: a Gold Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology and the 2007 Gilda Radner Award for demonstrating courage, determination, and hope in the face of cancer.
